Dennis and Rhonda began touring with their smoker, grill, and prepared meats in 2010, visiting festivals & fairs around the State of Indiana. Feedback from customers was for the high quality food to be offered on a more regular basis, and with easier access than just at fairs and meetings. It was at that time the idea of offering the Flying Pink Pig BBQ services in Seymour was born.
The Flying Pink Pig BBQ is a member of the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). In 2011 'The Flying Pig' began competition cooking with TV's Food Network Champions, and attending classes with nine-time World Champion Chris Marks.
The business holds awards in pork, chicken, brisket, and ribs. In 2012, Dennis Schwein earned the KCBS Certified Judge title. The Flying Pink Pig BBQ is registered as a participant with Operation BBQ Relief.
Even as the business expands into Food Truck Services, selling BBQ Sauce and Rub, and Custom Catering, Dennis and Rhonda will continue to build the Flying Pink Pig BBQ brand with their competition cooking endeavors.
The Flying Pink Pig BBQ concept was developed over a generation of family cooking events and annual hog roasts. During that time, Dennis and Rhonda Schwein developed high quality BBQ techniques, and refined their special custom dry rub and BBQ sauces. The concept of 'The Flying Pig' was born from a desire to share with family, friends, and the community the tastes, concepts, and process involved in making, and then sharing, high quality BBQ food.
The Schwein family has perfected a way to bring good sauce, good meat, and good cooking together in a unique way that is now delighting all of those using the Food Truck and Custom Catering service.
